I offer a compassionate and supportive space for you both to explore your relationship, understand each other and consider a way forward. These frequently asked questions explain what to expect from couples counselling and help you decide whether it feels right for you.
No. You might want to address difficulties early, understand each other better or make more time for your relationship. You don’t need to wait until things feel unmanageable.
No. I welcome couples whether you are married, living together or in another committed relationship. Relationship counselling can also support other relationships, such as siblings or friends—please get in touch to discuss what you’re looking for.
We meet in person to discuss what has brought you to counselling and what each of you hopes to gain. It is also an opportunity to ask questions and explore whether working together feels right for all of us. Beforehand, I send each of you a form to complete.
My role is to help both of you feel heard and explore what happens between you. We can look at difficult patterns and their impact without making one person responsible for everything. The focus is on your relationship.
Yes. I work with both of you together. If one person cannot attend, including through illness, the session would not go ahead with just the other person. We would discuss rescheduling and the cancellation policy.
I include both of you in communication throughout our work. Any separate contact would be handled transparently, in line with the agreement we discuss before counselling begins. Information provided in your initial forms would also be open to discussion in our sessions.
Sessions are confidential within the limits explained in our counselling agreement, including circumstances involving serious risk or safeguarding concerns. We will also agree how information shared individually is handled, so you both understand the boundaries before we begin.
You don’t need to arrive with the same hopes or a shared decision about your future. Counselling gives you space to explore those differences and understand what matters to each of you.
There is no guaranteed outcome. Our work may help you reconnect, or it may help you consider separation with greater clarity. I won’t decide the future of your relationship for you.
This varies depending on your circumstances and what you want to explore. We will discuss this together and review how the sessions are working for both of you.
